Brands Hatch showdown for British Formula Four
Thu 29, Sep, 2016

The 2016 Formula Four British Championship certified by FIA will reach a dramatic conclusion this weekend as the final three races of the season get underway at the historic Brands Hatch GP circuit in Kent. Carlin head in to the weekend in a strong position with Max Fewtrell as the highest placed of the team’s four racers currently holding second place in the Championship. Fewtrell, trailing by just five points, has fierce competition in the tough championship not least from team mates James Pull, Devlin Defrancesco and Petru Florescu who have all shown incredible speed throughout the duration of the season so far taking wins apiece as the year has progressed.

In what is likely to a thrilling conclusion to an already exciting season, the final three rounds will take place at Brands Hatch around the full length GP circuit. Currently, Fewtrell sits second overall in the Championship standings but is a mere five points off the very top spot. Fewtrell has been a commanding force all season long, consistently picking up valuable points leading to his current position – including two wins among his high tally of 13 podiums.

Fewtrell said of the final race weekend of the season “I’m really looking forward to the last weekend with the Championship up for grabs. It would be the icing on the cake of a great season to take the title but I'm approaching this weekend just like the others and nothing's really changed in that respect. I can't wait to get out there and give it everything I have to give myself and the team the best chance possible to take the title!”

However he will have fierce competition as the season draws to a close including from team mate Defrancesco who has racked up an impressive ten podiums this season including three wins. For Defrancesco the weekend sees him as someone to watch as he looks to hunt down the championship lead having sat nicely in contention for the crown throughout the season.

Sitting fourth in the championship Defrancesco said of the weekend, “Obviously going in to the last round with a shot at the title is something to think about even though it may be a bit of a long shot for me but anything can happen in motorsport especially in a Championship as tight and competitive as the F4 British Championship. I’m going to go in to the weekend and just going to do my job - do the best I can and see where we end up as the season draws to a close.”

Pull has often had a target on his back as the man to beat as the weekend gets underway – underlining his speed, the British racer has already claimed victory once this season and has tallied up seven strong podiums along the way. Pull who currently sits fifth overall in the standings, has also gained experience this season in the BRDC British Formula Three Championship finishing the final race of the season within the top ten.

Romanian racer Florescu has also been racking up the achievements over the course of the 2016 season with an impressive haul of five wins to his name; incredibly bringing the tally for the four Carlin drivers to 11 wins and 27 podiums with three races remaining. Having stormed out of the blocks with a double win around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit at the very start of the season, Florescu will be looking to replicate that success at the longer Grand Prix circuit this weekend.

For Carlin, the weekend marks the opportunity to wrap up the Teams’ Cup and the chance to have taken two drivers to the title following the success of 2015 Champion Lando Norris. Carlin head in to the weekend with a lead of 70 points as their four drivers go head to head for the final time this year.
