David Fumanelli scored his second straight pole position in the Renault Sport Trophy at Jerez De La Frontera. In the last round of the 2015 series held in southern Spain, the Italian racer, fielded by the Oregon team, set the fastest lap of the day at the end of a tense session before cruising to second place in the Endurance race. On the other hand, Fumanelli saw his hopes to fight for the Elite title disappear on Saturday, when he lined-up at the start of the race with a dry set-up under pouring rain which made the care literally undriveable. David relinquished the lead and fell down to the 8th place, losing any theoretical chance to fight for the championship. On Sunday, the choice of lining-up on the grid with slick tires didn’t pay off, forcing him to pit for wets and to cross the line in seventh.
David Fumanelli:
“I’m surely disappointed for having lost my chance to fight for the Elite championship on Saturday. Unfortunately we made a wrong set-up choice but I reckon that finding the right solution was definitely a tough task. We had extremely variable conditions for the whole weekend and it has been difficult to reach a good compromise. I want to congratulate Pizzitola as he did his utmost to win this title. I also thank the Oregon team for all the support I was given throughout this season as we clearly showed we were among the most competitive packages. I couldn’t thank enough my sponsors and my family for all their close support”.
