Round 3 of the GP3 Series on 3-5 July took place at the Silverstone circuit in the countryside just 2 hours north of London, Great Britain. The Thai driver was keen to improve upon his results from the previous round in Austria, and was aiming for a top 10 finish.

Stuvik, as usual is racing for Status GP with the generous support of Singha Corporation, The Pizza Company, Dacon Inspection Services, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand, and the Sports Authority of Thailand.

Sandy Kraokaew Stuvik qualified in 19th place with a time of 1.48.541, 1.501 from the pole position driver Marvin Kirchhofer who set a 1.47.040. Second and third grid spots were Emil Bernstorff and Alex Palou respectively. Stuvik: “We made a lot of changes to the car after free practice as the car was pretty difficult to drive. However, with the car as it was in practice I was not able to fully find the grip of the tire and we went into qualification on the back foot. This doesn’t set up the weekend well because if you have a bad qualification run its almost impossible to make it up in the race.”

Race 1 of the weekend on Saturday afternoon saw Stuvik finishing in 22nd place after a dismal drive and a failing fuel pump in the last laps of the race. First place was Marvin Kirchhofer, followed by Emil Bernstorff and Matt Parry in second and third positions. Stuvik: “This circuit has much lower tire degradation as we are on the superhard compound. I was saving my tires as I thought there would be a cliff drop off in performance as in Barcelona, but it was for nothing. On the last few laps we had an issue with the fuel pumps and I could barely finish the race.” 

Race 2 on Sunday morning the Thai driver finished in 20th place. First place was Kevin Ceccon, with Esteban Ocon and Ralph Boschung filling out the podium. Stuvik: “This weekend has really gone from bad to worse. Now we’ll have to learn from it and make sure to be in the top ten at the next race. We know we can be competitive, but it hasn’t worked out this weekend.”

The next race for the Thai driver will take place in just 3 weeks at the Hungaroring circuit for the Hungarian Grand Prix on the 24-26th of July. “I'm looking forward to the next race, it’s a very technical circuit, the downside is that overtaking is very difficult so it means qualifying will be crucial.
