JDC MotorSports primed to tackle Streets of Toronto
Thu 11, Jun, 2015

As the 2015 Mazda Road to Indy season powers towards the halfway point in the schedule, JDC MotorSports will head north of the border to the only Canadian event on the tour, the Honda Indy Toronto.  The temporary street circuit event is extremely popular with the enthusiastic Canadian motorsports fans and the drivers love the atmosphere and the challenge of the historic 1.755-mile, 11-turn course.  JDC will field Red Deer, Alberta’s Parker Thompson in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda and Vero Beach, Florida’s Kyle Connery in the Pro Mazda Championship, and both drivers will be out for race wins and podiums finishes in their respective doubleheaders.

“We’ll have a focused program for Toronto and the guys are excited to get Kyle and Parker on-track here in Toronto,” offered John Church, JDC MotorSports Team Principal. “Kyle’s best result of the year came on the temp circuit at St. Petersburg when he was battling hard for fourth, so we know that we have a set-up and a driver that can be fast.  Parker has been tremendous as a rookie.  He’s been very consistent, and consistently in the front-half of the field.  His first USF2000 podium is just around the corner and it could easily happen here in Toronto.”

Connery returns to the seat of his #91 Hi-Tide Boat Lifts / SeaRock Pro Mazda having skipped the Freedom 90 oval event at Lucas Oil Raceway at the end of May.  The Florida pilot has shown flashes of great speed throughout the year, although bad luck seems to be around every bend or blind corner.  Kyle and his engineer Burke Harrison have worked diligently on improving their qualifying pace in an attempt to advance him out of the mid-pack chaos that so often ensues, and based on his pace on the street circuit in St. Petersburg, he enters the Toronto event with confidence.

As a USF2000 freshman, Thompson has been very impressive and consistent driving his #80 ‘Parker Thompson: Drive to Stay Alive’ racecar and is challenging for the Rookie of the Year title.  Currently fifth in the overall point standings, the Canadian continues to improve and will be battling for race wins before the end of the season.  Parker is thrilled to be racing in his home country and he enjoys the challenges of street racing.  The focus is on grabbing that first podium finish and considering his continual on-track improvement; Toronto presents a very promising opportunity to achieve this goal.

Connery and Thompson will both be provided with two practice sessions on Friday, and qualifying on Saturday morning.  The opening races of their doubleheaders will be run on Saturday afternoon and the second race will take to the track on Sunday morning.  Live timing and live commentary will be available on the series website (www.promazda.com and www.usf2000.com) and on the new Road to Indy app, which is available free for iPhones and Android devices through iTunes or Google Play.  JDC MotorSports races with associate sponsorship from RedLineOil.com, HR Sportswear and Showdown Displays.

Driver Quote: “Canada is a place that's treated me very well in the past. Our best result this year came on the streets of St. Pete, so I'm looking forward to getting back to the sharp end of the grid. We've had a rough time since St. Pete, but the team has been working their tails off to bring the best car we can to Toronto. Sadly, I'll be the only JDC Pro Mazda, so the information and comparison is going to be reliant on myself. However, it gives us some freedom to setup the car for myself more than in a multi-car operation. I'm hoping this will be the weekend we turn things around and get back to where we belong on the grid.”

Driver Quote: “Heading into Toronto, I am determined to find the missing links that we need to get to the front. I know our team has what it takes to be challenging for podiums. I have been training harder than ever, and I am more focused than ever to get our team to where it needs to be. I can't wait to race in front of my home country, and I really want nothing more than to put on a good show for Canada. Honestly, I have been waiting for this race all year long, and can't wait to get down to business in a few days!”
