Jonathan Venter returns to the 24 Hours of Spa in search of victory
Thu 27, Jul, 2017

Jonathan Venter makes his return to Belgium this weekend for round four of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the famous 24 Hours of Spa. The #3 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT driver is confident that he can find the performance to challenge for some top results in the Pro-Am class and walk away with a serious haul of points before the final round of the season begins in Barcelona in September.

This will be Venter’s second time contesting the incredible endurance event at the historic 7.004km circuit and he is determined to steer the #3 Audi R8 LMS to a strong finish at the team’s home race.

“I am really excited for the biggest race of the season; Spa has always been the highlight of the year for me. To be able to race with WRT who is fielding six factory entries is a real privilege. I am going to go into this weekend giving my best and taking away as much as I can,” said Venter.

The Australian driver, Venter, will be joined by his teammates, Josh Caygill and Niki Mayr-Melnhoff, as well as newcomer Richard Lyons, who has been named as the fourth driver for the gruelling 24 Hour race. Lyons is a highly experienced Super GT driver, with extensive time behind the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS and represents the perfect addition to their strong Pro-Am line-up.

“I believe that we have a solid line-up to help contest the Pro-Am class with the added talent of Richard Lyons. He is a very solid driver and I am very happy to have him on board with us, so I hope that this will help ensure a solid result for us in Pro-Am,” said the #3 driver.

Spa-Francorchamps is not only a technically challenging circuit but it also brings constantly shifting weather that further adds to the excitement and drama of the 24 hour battle. Venter and WRT have been hard at work developing various strategies that will help give them an edge over the fifty plus opponents who are competing for victory from Saturday.

Vincent Vosse, Team Principal of WRT had this to say, “I am very happy to have the car in the Pro-Am category, it is a very competitive field but we are aiming to be top three in our class. Jonathan Venter has been a great addition to the team all season and with the introduction of Richard Lyons for the 24 Hours of Spa, there is a wealth of experience in the car and I expect that we will be very competitive.”
