Kaan Önder takes top ten finish at Norisring
Mon 29, Jun, 2015

Kaan was on top form in free practice, finishing the session in fifth. Qualifying was more difficult with Kaan missing the two lap key window for setting a fast time with changing track conditions, with times that put him 16th and 14th on the grid for the two races.

Saturday’s race began well with several battles for position until on lap seven of 25 an opponent rejoined the track after an incident, colliding with Kaan’s number nine Audi Sport TT. The car hit the wall causing damage to the right side of the car, causing significant suspension damage necessitating extensive repairs overnight.

Sunday’s race delivered much better results with Kaan gaining positions throughout the accident-ridden race which featured two safety car periods to finish tenth overall and ninth in the championship points.

Kaan’s next races are at the Red Bull Ring on 1st and 2nd August.

Kaan Önder

“This has been a good weekend with a big step forward with how I feel in the car.  Qualifying was very close and getting better each time .  My first race didn’t end well but even in those seven laps I was able to make progress. I need to say a big thank you to the mechanics who worked hard into the night to repair my car.  Race two was also tough with the street circuit meaning position gains are difficult but the car felt good and I had good pace. It was my first full-distance dry race so I learnt a lot.

“My understanding of how to get the best from the car is much more intuitive. My main challenge was managing the braking but today has been great. I have more confidence and feel more at home in the car. I’m driving as the car needs to be driven. Our planning is better and we should be able to put everything together at the Red Bull Ring to see more improvement.”
