Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit is the venue for the final three rounds of the 2014 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship this coming weekend, 13th/14th September, where Double R Racing driver Camren Kaminsky will be striving to wrap-up a top three series finish in his maiden F3 season.
Currently third overall in the championship for the Woking-based team, the American is aiming to end the campaign on a high by adding to the breakthrough podium finish he achieved at Thruxton last month.
Developing strongly throughout the season at the wheel of his Mercedes powered Dallara F312, Formula Ford graduate Kaminsky – who only has two previous years of car racing experience under his belt – has had much to learn in his first season at F3 level.
Going into rounds 19, 20 and 21 at Donington Park a few days from now, Kaminsky will carry a 35 point advantage over fellow championship regular Li Zhi Cong and is in the box seat to end the year in the coveted series top three.
Piloting Double R’s second Dallara-Mercedes at the Leicestershire track will be current Formula Ford racer Max Marshall who will be making his third appearance of the year in British F3, having also competed at Thruxton and during the previous event at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit.
Hot on the heels of his most recent outing in Formula Ford at Rockingham last weekend, where he claimed his second victory of the season to retain third place in the standings, the North Kilworth driver will return to the cockpit of a Dallara F312 having raced an older F308 chassis at Brands Hatch when fellow Briton Dan Wells was also in action in Double R colours.
Marshall is yet to take podium silverware across the six races he has contested in Formula 3, although he was awarded the Mobil 1 Service Centre Master of the Weekend accolade at Thruxton after chalking up a hat-trick of fourth place finishes on his category bow.
“The end of the British F3 season has certainly come around very quickly, it doesn’t seem five minutes since we were preparing for the opening rounds at Rockingham in early May”, said Double R team principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt, “We’re all really looking forward to being back at Donington, it’s a great track and a real test for the drivers.
“Camren is well placed to finish third in the championship, which would be a fantastic result for him in his first season, and we’re delighted to have Max back out. Hopefully we can have a successful conclusion to the championship and take home some more podium silverware.”
Cooper Tires British F3 Championship qualifying at Donington Park GP Circuit will get underway at 11.00 on Saturday, 13th September, with the first race of the weekend following at 14.50. Rounds 20 and 21 will take place on Sunday, 14th September, at 10.50 and 15.45.
