Nielsen ready for European Le Mans Series return at Red Bull Ring in Austria
Wed 13, Jul, 2016

IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship-leading GT Daytona driver Christina Nielsen is shifting her racing focus back to Europe this weekend as the 2016 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) gets back underway at Austria's Red Bull Ring.

The all-Danish Formula Racing team will be looking to repeat its winning form from the 2015 race there, a result which launched a championship-winning season for the team.

Nielsen will be in an ideal position to play a full part in the effort this Friday through Sunday, having raced before in the series at the iconic circuit in 2014.

"The Red Bull Ring is the first track I drove when I entered the ELMS series," Nielsen said. "Circuit knowledge is a huge bonus in a field as competitive as this. As for the track, it's rather physical; you have some straights, but they're bending when you go uphill. It's physically demanding but in the GT cars; it produces really good racing."

The four-hour race in Austria is the first outing for the team since the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month, which saw the Formula Racing trio score a top-six class finish in a world-class field, battling back after a lost wheel early in the race in the No. 60 Formula Racing Ferrari 458 GTE.

While the team has been rebuilding the car and getting ready for the second part of their season, Nielsen has been busy on the other side of the Atlantic with a pair of race wins and several other strong finishes. She now has a convincing points lead in the GT Daytona class.

"I'm sure the team has done a great job preparing the car for this race," Nielsen said. "I'm coming here with some real momentum, and now it's time to convert that into a really strong race to help relaunch our season."

The 4 Hours of the Red Bull Ring gets underway at 2 p.m. (UTC) Sunday, July 17, with live-streaming HD video on www.dailymotion.com.
