Nine Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific customer cars will compete in this weekend’s China GT Championship event (28-30 June) for rounds five and six of the 2019 season from Shanghai.

Making its first of two visits to the 5.451 km Grand Prix venue, seven entries come from the single-make category with 69 Racing Team running four of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.

The three Pro-Am entries consist of the most recent class victors Jacky Wu and Porsche China Junior Daniel Lu in the #69 car, as well as former Porsche Carrera Cup Asia racer Ben Rouget who partners with Simon Chan in the #10.

On board the #52 machine is 2015 China Touring Car Super Production 2.0 champion and former Carrera Cup Asia racer Zhang Zhendong and co-driver Steve Yin.

The team also fields an Am entry with Yang Ke in the #666 car, competing against Sepang GTC podium finishers YC Racing with Wu Pei and Eagleeyed Racing Team’s Zhang Ke in the #118.

Eagleeyed Racing Team will also represent Porsche in the GTC field, with China GT regular Lawrence Liu alongside double Formula China Grand Prix champion and Carrera Cup Asia podium finisher Cui Yue behind the wheel of the #9 machine.

In the GT4 category, RSR GT Racing enters its #828 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR (981) with the Am line-up of 2015 China Touring Car Production champion Xia Yu and China Endurance Championship class winner Pei Liang. It also has an Am entry in the one-make category with Jui Yu Chien and Sun Zirui in the #36.

For the GT4 field, track action begins on Friday with a 60-minute practice session at 11:20 with two 15-minute qualifying sessions starting at 14:25. Both the Saturday and Sunday race will start at 11:15.

For the GT3 and GTC classes, practice will be at 12:35 and qualifying at 16:20. Race one on Saturday will be at 14:15 with Sunday’s race at 14:05.

Lawrence Liu, Eagleeyed Racing Team, said: “I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Shanghai is my favourite track in Asia, the well-known long straight can make you feel very bold for an overtake. My pace was quite ideal during last year’s China GT in Shanghai and I am confident of a step forward in the forthcoming weekend.”

Simon Chan, 69 Racing Team, said: “The Shanghai circuit is where I first began racing, that's why racing here is always a big event for myself and my team. I will be racing in Sino GT as well as China GT, which will definitely be physically demanding on me and a challenge for my mechanics to keep the car in good condition throughout the weekend. The weather conditions seem unpredictable, so it will be interesting to see what everyone’s strategy is going to be.”

Steve Yin, 69 Racing Team, said: “I am racing this weekend with my Porsche 991 GT3 Cup in both the Sino GT and China GT races. It’s the perfect race car for this weekend, as it is very suitable for both sprint and endurance races. It’s reliable, easy to support, very demanding yet really fun to drive.”

Daniel Lu, 69 Racing Team, said: “I’m really looking forward to this weekend for the third round of China GT. We are currently leading the Porsche Cup championship, so hopefully we will have some good pace and grab more points to extend our lead in the championship.”
