It would appear that word has got out about GulfSport Racing’s focus on young driver development as they approach the start of Season Four with their Formula Gulf 1000 Championship.
Campos Racing, who have been successful in GP2, F3, Open Nissan and WTC have placed young drivers in FG1000 in order to help prepare them to race F3 cars in EuroFormula Open. Supported by Technical Partner Gulf Oil ,who developed a unique high performance oil for GulfSport’s race cars, Towers Rotana as Hospitality Partner, and Ghassan Shalabi’s Strata Group, GulfSport are able to offer young drivers a full season of racing at less then half the cost of a season in F4.
Said GulfSport Racing’s Martin Hope, "Apart from Campos Racing approaching us, we had calls from Driver Managers in Brazil and the UK who both look after Championship winning kart racers. The common theme was to train them here in the winter ahead of their first season in FIA F4".
This season we will see an International lineup of drivers from UK, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Kosovo, Oman, Kenya, and Trinidad and Tobago. Paradoxically, there are no Emirati drivers in this UAE national Formula car championship.
With ex-F1 driver Adrian Campos’ team providing an F3 test and GP2 simulator training for this season’s Champion, and Gulf Oil taking the Vice Champion as its guest to the Le Mans 24 Hour race with Aston martin, competition will be fierce.
We can expect close racing from the three most experienced Championship drivers, Kenya’s Tejas Hirani, Campos Racing’s Amhad Al Ghanim and ex-Italian FIA F4 driver Edi Haxhiu. However, Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair has been very quick in testing as has Mashuur Bal Hejaila (KSA). In the new Masters Class, we will no doubt see some great racing from the ever popular duo of Neil Greer and Keverne McShine.
Rounds 1 & 2 of a 14 x race season take place at the Dubai Autodrome on 14th November.
