The Barcelona-born driver jumps behind the wheel of his Carlin-entered Dallara GP2/11 once again to contest the penultimate round of the main F1 feeder series. Canamasas has previous experience of the Sepang layout.
Sergio Canamasas is ready ahead of the penultimate round of the GP2 Series to be held in Sepang (Malaysia), where he will return at the wheel of his Dallara GP2/11 entered by Carlin. Spain´s Canamasas picked up points finishes in Barcelona, Baku and Spa-Francorchamps and eyes another points-paying weekend at Sepang International Circuit, an event returning to the calendar following a three-year absence. Canamasas has previous experience at this track which features two long straights and has many different corner types including fast, medium and slow bends. Besides, traditionally Sepang was a kind of abrasive asphalt but after being resurfaced it could have slightly changed. At the same time, extreme temperatures and high humidity are particularly challenging for drivers.
“I have previous experience in Sepang, so it should be a good starting point to start working. Technically is a difficult racetrack, resulting in quite demanding for drivers. I hope to get good vibes as soon as possible and I look forward to posting a good result. If circumstances warrant, I´m convinced we will be competitive in Malaysia”, Canamasas stresses. Finally, he stated that “despite teams such as Prema never raced there before, I´m sure they will be formidable rivals. But I am going to push just as hard as everyone else”.
Malaysia´s schedule is slightly different as free practice session will be held on Thursday (10.05 CET) and qualifying on Friday (09.55). Saturday´s feature race with mandatory pit stop will take place at 05.50 and Sunday´s sprint race is due to start at 05.20.
