Toyota 86 champion Brook keen for Townsville return
Wed 03, Jul, 2019

Last year's Toyota 86 Racing Series champion Tim Brook is set to return to the Reid Park street circuit in Townsville for the second round of the 2019 season.

The scene of his breakthrough victory in 2018, Townsville proved the launching pad for his successful championship campaign in the McLaren Real Estate Toyota 86.

Brook currently leads the championship after the opening round at Phillip Island in April, with one win already under his belt.

"Phillip Island went really well for us, it was a great way to start the year," Brook said.

"To come away with a win was fantastic, and even more important was to get some good points out of that first weekend."

Having competed in the Toyota 86 Racing Series since its inaugural season, Brook has been a front runner throughout the series' three year history.

It was his weekend in Townsville 12 months ago, however, that set up his championship tilt.

Over the course of that weekend Brook recorded a perfect result, taking pole position in qualifying and three race wins from as many starts.

The Oran Park racer is looking forward to returning to the circuit, which is made up of a mixture of public roads and parkland circuit.

"Returning to Townsville is exciting because it's somewhere that was really good to us last year," Brook said.

"We had a brilliant weekend there last time, so hopefully we can repeat that this time around.

"It's not going to be easy though, the competition is so close, so we're not going into it expecting an easy time.

"Since Phillip Island we've been busy going over the car like we always do, so we're as well prepared as we can be.

"Now it's just up to me to go out and do the job on track, because the boys have given me a car capable of of some good results."

The Toyota 86 Racing Series is again racing in support of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, with the Watpac Townsville 400 one of the most popular events on the calendar.

It will be a busy weekend for the McLaren Real Estate Macarthur squad, with opening practice scheduled for 0845 on Friday morning before second practice at 1215.

Saturday morning kicks off with qualifying at 0820 which is quickly followed by the opening race of the weekend at 1115.

A second 14 lap race ends the day at 1710 with the weekend's finale set to take place over 12 laps starting at 1145 on Sunday.

All sessions from qualifying on Saturday morning are set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports, with live streaming across the weekend courtesy of Kayo Sports.
